THE UN GENERAL ASSEMBLY HAS UNANIMOUSLY ADOPTED THE RESOLUTION “THE ROLE OF THE UNITED NATIONS REGIONAL CENTRE FOR PREVENTIVE DIPLOMACY FOR CENTRAL ASIA”

On the 16th of April 2020, in the framework of the 59th meeting of the 75th session of the UN General Assembly, the Resolution “The Role of the United Nations Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia” initiated by Turkmenistan was unanimously adopted in co-sponsorship of 72 Member States of the Organization.

As known, the President of Turkmenistan has voiced the given initiative during his speech in September 2020 in the framework of the 75th jubilee session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Being a unique platform with a wide range of actions, the United Nations Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia makes an important contribution to the development of regional dialogue on pressing issues of current time.   The joint actions of the Government of Turkmenistan and the Centre are fully oriented at the attainment of the strategic goals – establishment of peace, stability and security in the Central Asia.

It is worthwhile to note that the efficiency of the functioning of the given office of the UN in the Central Asia region is also highlighted in the UN General Assembly Resolution initiated by Turkmenistan and adopted in November 2017 on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the opening of the Centre.

Implementing the “open door” policy and being fully committed to the recognized Neutrality course, Turkmenistan in practice carries out concrete steps on the provision of regional peace, security and development.  In this regard, it is vital to note that Turkmenistan, as a responsible member of the international community on many occasions stood for the effective use of political-diplomatic mechanisms and the capabilities of the preventive diplomacy in international affairs for the attainment of sustainable development, peace and security.

Carrying out in practice the initiatives aimed at the promotion of regional integration, Turkmenistan is going to continue taking active part in the multilateral activities implemented by the United Nations Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia with the aim of overall attainment of the Global Agenda 2030.
