THE PRESIDENT OF TURKMENISTAN RECEIVES THE FOREIGN MINISTER OF TURKEY

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov has received Foreign Minister of the Republic of Turkey Mevlut Cavusoglu.

Having expressed sincere gratitude for the spared time, the guest conveyed cordial greetings of President of Turkey Recep Tayip Erdogan to the head of the state and addressed best wishes to fraternal Turkmen people. At the same time, the commitment of Turkish side to traditionally friendly relations with Turkmenistan, which are successfully developed in all directions, has been confirmed.

Having conveyed return greetings to the head of the Republic of Turkey, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov stated with delight constructive and steadfast character of interstate dialog. Turkmen leader said that Turkmenistan and Turkey are connected with fruitful cooperation, which meets mutual interests and the goals of prosperity in regional and global scale.

Continuing the meeting, the head of the state and his guest have exchanged the opinions on perspectives of Turkmen – Turkish partnership in the context of reached bilateral agreements and realization of existing significant potential in various spheres. Trade and economic sphere, energy, transport and communication as well as other fields have been highlighted among priority directions of cooperation.

The head of the state has expressed the confidence that use of potential of Afghanistan – Turkmenistan – Azerbaijan – Georgia – Turkey transit and transport corridor with entry to Europe would bring colossal benefits to the countries of the region.

The Foreign Minister of Turkey has also extended gratitude to President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov for support given to representatives of Turkish business, which shows keen interest in further strengthening of relations with Turkmenistan, which has favorable investment climate and implements big infrastructural projects and large-scale social and economic programs.

Humanitarian sphere is also an integral part of interstate relations, which is provided by historical, cultural and spiritual commonality uniting the nations of two states. Rich experience of joint work has been gained in this sphere. There are favorable opportunities for intensification of fruitful cooperation in education and science, culture and art as well as in sports and tourism.

At the same time, it was highlighted that Turkmenistan and Turkey work effectively under competent regional and international organizations demonstrating similarity and proximity of positions in current modern issues, especially those related to provision of global peace and security, achievement of the Sustainable development goals. In this regard, the head of the state and his guest have spoken for continuation of the practice of regular contacts between foreign departments of two states.

Having noted that 2021 has been announced as International Year of Peace and Trust at the proposal of Turkmenistan, which was set out in special Resolution of the United Nations General Assembly, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov expressed gratitude that Turkey was among the first states, which supported this initiative.

In addition, Turkmenistan has taken over the chairing in the Economic Cooperation organization this year. This mission is a great honor and responsibility for our country, the head of the state said highlighting that experience gained by Turkey in this work would be useful and would be successfully continued.

Having noted that the trade between Turkey and Turkmenistan has been increased by 8 percent up to 2 billion US dollars in 2020, the head of the state highlighted an important role of Intergovernmental Commission in development of bilateral relations.

Speaking that Turkish businessmen take active part in wide-scale changes and implementation of international projects in Turkmenistan, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov has brought as example the fact that construction of Turkmenistan – Afghanistan – Pakistan power line has been given to Çalik Enerji Company.

Having noted that it is planned to hold the Summit of the heads of the state members of the Economic Cooperation Organization under the chairing of Turkmenistan in the ECO in Garagum Hotel in Ashgabat on November 28, 2021 – the day of foundation of this organization, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov invited the President of the Republic of Turkey to take part in this event.

In addition, it is planned to hold Turkmenistan – Azerbaijan High-level Summit in Ashgabat this year. Subjects related to activation of interstate relations would be discussed at the Summit. The dates of the event have been changed due to the coronavirus pandemics. In this regard, it was noted that Turkmen side is willing to organize trilateral high-level meeting at any convenient time.

In the end of the meeting, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Foreign Minister of the Republic of Turkey Mevlut Cavusoglu have expressed confidence that old interstate cooperation would continue to be developed dynamically.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Turkey to Turkmenistan Togan Oral has taken part in the meeting.
