Delegation of Turkmenistan Participated in the 52nd Session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers
On October 17–18, 2026, the 52nd Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) was held in the capital of Iraq, with the participation of a delegation from Turkmenistan.
During the session, the participants discussed pressing issues on the international and regional agendas, the strengthening of peace and security, as well as the expansion of political, trade, economic, and humanitarian cooperation among the Member States of the Organization.
One of the key outcomes of the session was the adoption, at the initiative of Turkmenistan, of the resolution entitled "The Role of the Policy of Neutrality in Maintaining and Strengthening International Peace, Security and Sustainable Development within the OIC Region and Worldwide."
The resolution once again received the support of the OIC Member States, reaffirming international recognition of the significance of the policy of neutrality as an effective instrument for promoting peace, security, and sustainable development.
During the session, the delegation of Turkmenistan delivered a statement outlining the country's priority areas of cooperation with the OIC. Particular attention was paid to Turkmenistan's foreign policy initiatives aimed at strengthening international trust, promoting dialogue and preventive diplomacy, and ensuring respect for the rule of international law.
In this context, the significance of Turkmenistan's initiative to proclaim 2028 as the International Year of International Law, which received the support of the United Nations General Assembly, was emphasized.
Special attention was also given to expanding cooperation in the fields of education, science, and culture. In particular, it was noted that in 2026, Turkmenistan obtained observer status in the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), opening up new opportunities for cooperation in these areas.
The Turkmen side also expressed its interest in further strengthening partnerships with OIC Member States in the fields of trade and economy, energy, transport and communications, and humanitarian cooperation.
Turkmenistan's participation in the 52nd Session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers and the adoption of the resolution proposed by the Turkmen side served as further evidence of the country's consistent implementation of its foreign policy aimed at strengthening peace, trust, and multilateral cooperation.
