Aeromodelers of Turkmenistan Compete to Be Named Best

The 2020 Senior and Junior Aeromodeling Championships have taken place not far from Ashgabat.

Aeromodelers with radio-controlled aircrafts were the first to compete. Four masters of sports contested to be crowned a national champion. Controlled from the ground, airplanes had to remain airborne for as long as 8 minutes after taking off and then land at a designated place. Points were awarded for the flight time and the precision of landing.

A strong wind (8-10 m/sec) made the competition even more challenging, and not all the modelers were ready for this. Master of Sports, many-times champion of Turkmenistan Sakhat Kuliev was declared the winner. Master of Sports and aeromodeling veteran Sergey Obraztsov and Rafael Mustafin were second and third placed respectively.

The next round saw representatives of aircraft modeling clubs from Akhal and Mary velayats, the capital’s Byuzmein etrap, and the Ashgabat Aeromodeling Club (the Ministry of Defense of Turkmenistan). Young model aircraft makers competed in races flying gliders, rubber-powered, radio-controlled and originally-designed models.

Kerim Nazarov, a representative of the capital’s Aeromodeling Club, emerged as a winner in the junior group. Ruslan Avetisov, an Ashgabat schoolboy and the youngest aeromodeler won in the class of rubber-powered models.

Aeromodeler Igor Feld amazed everyone with his radio-controlled model jet airplane performing aerobatic maneuvers. A “Flying Wing” by Gaji Tuchkus looked distinctly unusual. One of the oldest aeromodelers of Turkmenistan, Murad Ataev, presented a radio-controlled Yak-18 model airplane.

The championship winners and prize-winners received certificates of merit and gifts. The Challenge Cup was presented to the team of the Ashgabat Aeromodeling Club (the Ministry of Defense).
