Dashoguz Velayat to Host Culture Week-2020 on June 22-27

Dashoguz velayat is preparing to host the Culture Week-2020. From June 22 through to June 27, the country’s northern region will be brimming with spectacular festivities, awareness-raising events, and glittering premieres also timed to honor cultural and art workers on their professional day and the great Turkmen poet, Magtymguly Pyragy.

The annual forum, which celebrates our country’s richly diverse historical and cultural heritage, is the colorful showcase of vibrant contemporary Turkmen culture, reflecting all the national arts - opera, music, songs, cinema, theater, fine, decorative and applied arts, literature and folklore. It has become a platform for a meaningful dialogue and a professional exchange of views.

The N. Andalib Music and Drama Theater, the Dashoguz Velayat Library, the Local History Museum, and Gerogly Square in front of the Ruhyet Palace in Dashoguz will be major venues for wonderfully varied activities. Rural Culture Houses will also play host to performances by representatives from all over the country.

Theater companies are set to delight theater lovers by impressive new productions. The Week’s most anticipated premiere is a new production of the opera Nejep Oglan by the Magtymguly National Music and Drama Theater’s. Based on the namesake destan, the epic story will be retold through music, song and poetry.

It is no sheer coincidence that writer Govshutgeldy Danatarov, who authored the libretto, composer Nurygandym Khojamukhammedov, and production director Aynazar Batyrov chose this destan. The story is set in the medieval city of Kounyaurgench. The principal character is a brave young man and talented bagshi (folk musician), who is able to cure illnesses and triumph over evil by playing his dutar. Teachers and students of the Maya Kulieva Turkmen National Conservatory will be performing the leading roles.

During the Culture Week-2020, the Nurmukhammed Andalib Music and Drama Theater (Dashoguz) will present a stage production of the much-famed Turkmen epic Gerogly, whose conception reflects the creative and constructive power of culture. The production narrates about the traditions of good neighborly relations, the peace-loving spirit and spiritual values of the Turkmen nation.

The large-scale cultural forum will culminate in a solemn ceremony to award and honor creative professionals, who are the recipients of honorary titles, and the winners of the Türkmeniň Altyn Asyry-2020 Competition.

The Culture Week program will offer guests to the region to see the major attractions and places of interest of the northern region’s administrative center, its park areas and historical and cultural monuments. Derek Park, a new green area located in the southeastern part of the city of Dashoguz will provide the venue for one of the events.
